F – Functional Neuroimaging

Head of Research Line F

Dr. Stefano Paolucci

The objective of the Research Line F is the assessment of changes in the human brain associated with neurological and psychiatric disorders, accomplished through the use of advanced structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging. The research projects aim to acquire new information on the diseases treated and provide increasingly accurate tests of the effectiveness of treatment protocols.

Structural and Functional Magnetic Resonance

The structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) allows to display in detail the impact of the disease on the different components of the central nervous system. Functional MRI (fMRI, Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) instead allows to study how brain damage affects the brain's ability to respond to cognitive stimulation and tasks.

Laboratory of the Research Area F

The Research Line F is implemented by a single Functional Neuroimaging Laboratory, where are found all the technologies required for neuroimaging and functional imaging. The laboratory is involved in several research projects across the Santa Lucia Foundation, which require the collaboration of this research field.
