Neurorehabilitation 3

Clinical Activity

The Operative Unit Neurorehabilitation 3 provides rehabilitation solutions for patients with deficits of movement and cognitive-behavioural disorders caused by neurological diseases and trauma. It is particularly specialized in clinical practice and research dedicated to cerebrovascular disease and degenerative diseases of the nervous system. These include Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Rehabilitation Programs

The team is composed of neurologists, physical therapists, nurses and health workers. The staff of the department are supported by psychotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, social workers and other specialists whose interdisciplinary approach is critical for the inpatients rehabilitation. Upon admission factors such as age, residual capabilities and motor and cognitive deficits determine the rehabilitation program to be undertaken and the prospects for functional recovery of the patient.

Research Activities

The clinical activity of the Operative Unit Neurorehabilitation 3 is closely related to the programs of the Research Line A - Clinical and Behavioral Neurology and Research Line C – Preclinical Neuroscience. The laboratories employ methods related to genetics, electrophysiology, pharmacology, biochemistry and functional neuroimaging in research programs.
