Fondazione Santa Lucia - Ambulatorio di Genetica Medica

Medical Genetics Outpatient Clinic

The Medical Genetics Outpatient Clinic provides specialist advice to patients and families affected by genetic diseases and to those concerned about the actual risk of developing or transmitting a genetic disease. Genetic analyzes are required to diagnose, confirm or exclude a clinical suspicion. They may also be required to determine the susceptibility to complex genetic diseases or familial risk as well as the recurrence of Mendelian genetic disorders. Together with the evaluation of instrumental and clinical documentation of the patient, information is collected on the characteristics of the disease, age of onset and the possible presence of additional affected members in the family. Through the construction of a family tree, it is then possible to analyze the potential pattern of disease transmission so informed decisions can be made.
