Diseases treated
The Outpatient Physiotherapy Unit of Santa Lucia Foundation is designed for patients with motor impairments of neurological origin (lesions of the peripheral and central nervous system, multiple sclerosis, extrapyramidal diseases and myopathies) or caused by rheumatologic diseases (arthritis and inflammatory rheumatic complaints). The Unit also provides rehabilitation treatment for orthopedic disease, post-traumatic and post-surgical issues, postural changes as well as neck pain and back pain.
Rehabilitation sessions take place in a gym exclusively dedicated to outpatients. The facility is equipped with aids for motor and neuro-motor rehabilitation, sensitivity stimulation and equilibrium recovery. It includes small mats for gymnastics, a Bobath bed and Treadmills.
The outpatient physiotherapy service is offered in agreement with the National Health Service (SSN), on SIMP list and on a private basis. Access to SSN care is dependent on availability under the condition that the treatment requested is covered by the National Health Service.
To access the services the patient should present a recent (20 days) prescription of a specialist. The prescription is reviewed and accepted by the doctor in charge of the service, Dr. Luca Pratesi. Persons in a wheelchair are asked for an admission test in the gym, to verify their motor autonomies are adequate for successful rehabilitation treatment on an outpatient basis.
